Pamela asks:
You've mentioned Popchips a few times on this site. I'm wondering how they are made if they're not baked or fried?
HSG Answers:
Hi Pamela,
Good question.
Popping is a way of cooking all-natural ingredients using heat, and pressure to burst the ingredients into the shape of a chip. Think of it like popping a popcorn kernel.
Basicaly, beginning with the potatoes, organic white corn and whole grain brown rice—heat and pressure are applied to pop the kernel, grain or potato bit to form the popped pieces into a chip. The company then applies an artful blend of natural seasonings to deliver something better-for-you and truly delicious.
Amazingly, no oil is used in the popping process! That’s what makes it so great and healthy. After the popping process, the company uses just a bit of all-natural safflower and/or sunflower oil in the seasoning. So popchips still have all the flavor, and less than half the fat of fried potato chips.
